Airlines and Aviation
Next to Thanksgiving and Christmas, the 4th of July is the most popular holiday of the year for Americans to travel. As a result, airlines boost fares. So when is the best time to book tickets?
Airlines routinely increase the price of tickets when demand is high. Since the 4th of July weekend is the most popular travel period in summer, travellers can expect fares to soar as the holiday approaches.
So when is the best time to book tickets?
According the travel data evaluated by travel website Hipmunk, travellers should book airline tickets before 18 May 2015 for travel over the July 4th weekend.
If they do, they can expect to save as much as 58% - or an average of US$200 - over what they would pay if they wait until the week before the holiday.
The biggest savings are expected to be to Philadelphia, Pennylvania, and Washington, DC.
Since the data evaluated is from last year, there is no guarantee that the best dates to book tickets will be exactly the same this year. But it goes without saying that the earlier you book, the better chance you have of saving money.
Unless, of course, you decide to travel on July 4th itself. While tickets tend to soar like a fourth of July rocket before and after holidays, they usually drop on the holiday itself.
