A group of rival California football fans calls truce in bid to keep the Raiders in Oakland, keep the Chargers in San Diego, and return the Rams to Los Angeles. Will NFL owners listen?
Owners of National Football League teams will hold their annual spring meeting in San Francisco, California, from 18 to 20 May 2015, and some California football fans are calling for a truce.
Or maybe I should say, a United Front!!! Is it time to put civic pride and team rivalries aside???
Owners of teams in the National Football League will hold their NFL Spring Owners' Meeting in San Francisco, California, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on 18, 19, and 20 May 2015.
Members of a group called True California plan to march on the meeting to show support for keeping the Oakland Raiders in Oakland, keeping the San Diego Chargers in San Diego, and returning the St. Louis Rams to Los Angeles, where they played from 1946 to 1994.
"This is the true 'California Solution' the NFL needs to hear," the group says.
"We are a great state, with great cities, and great teams. We are 'True California '!!!"
The group adds: "'True California' football fans do not want to steal teams from other California cities!"
The group plans to gather at St. Mary's Square Park (time TBA) and to march 2 blocks to the Ritz Carlton San Francisco to make their voices heard at the annual NFL Owners Spring Meeting.
"The day will be a day to put aside our normal team rivalries and support each other's causes and restore California's true professional football legacy," the group says.
All of which raises an important question. Will San Francisco 49er fans be welcome at the March on the NFL Owners Spring Meeting?
Daniel Haro of Arcadia, California, posted the following question on Facebook: "I'm a 49ers fan, will I be welcome at this rally?"
And this is what other fans had to say ...
- "If you are in support of all of us, yes," R Onedera P. Jr.
- "It's important for Northern Calfornia to continue the Battle of the Bay games, so tis also benefits the Niners fans, too," AutumnWind Williams.
- "The more the merrier," True California.
Not sure how this will go down with football fans in Los Angeles hoping for a return of the Chargers or the Raiders ... or the fans in St. Louis hoping to hang on to their Rams.
