Qatar Airways has expanded its code-share agreements with both Cathay Pacific Airways of Hong Kong and Japan Airlines, creating more convenience and better connections.

All 3 of the air carriers are members of the oneworld alliance. Qatar Airways joined oneworld  in 2014.

The airline maintains a hub at Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar, which opened in 2014. The carrier currently flies to 146 travel destinations around the world - most of them non-stop from Doha.

As a result, passengers can transit at Doha to a mind boggling array of travel destinations.

“Becoming a member of oneworld in October 2013 was a significant landmark in Qatar Airways relatively young history, enabling us to strengthen our competitive offering," says Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker.

"The joining of this alliance, and the addition of these new code shares, enables our passengers to avail themselves of additional travel options, with ease, across routes that encompass the entire globe.”

In addition to Cathay Pacific Airways and Japan Airlines, other code share partners include American Airlines, Azerbaijan Airlines, Bangkok Airways, British Airways, Japan Airlines, JetBlue, Asiana Airlines, Gol Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes, Malaysia Airlines, Middle East Airlines, SNCF, and US Airways.

Qatar Airways entered the Japanese market in 2005, when it stated serving Osaka Kansai International Airport. Osaka is Japan's 2nd largest city after Tokyo.

Tokyo Narita International Airport, which handles mostly international traffic, was added in 2010.

Tokyo Haneda International Airport, which is favoured by many travellers because it is relatively close to downtown Tokyo, was added in 2014. Haneda handles mostly domestic traffic.

Because of the large number of flights to domestic travel destinations, Haneda makes a perfect transit point for passengers arriving from overseas that want to transfer to other travel destinations in Japan.

Narita, meanwhile, offers convenient connections to travel destinations throughout the Asia Pacific as well as to the Americas.

With the new agreement with Japan Airlines, passengers travelling on Qatar Airways will have improved connections to 24 domestic Japanese travel destinations: Akita, Amami O Shima, Aomori, Asahikawa, Hakodate, Hiroshima, Kagoshima, Kita Kyushu, Kochi, Komatsu, Kumamoto, Kushiro, Izumo, Matsuyama, Memambetsu, Misawa, Miyazaki, Nagasaki, Obihiro, Oita, Okayama, Takamatsu, Tokushima, and Ube.

Qatar Airways has been flying to Hong Kong from its Doha hub for several years. Cathay Pacific Airways launched non-stop service linking Hong Kong with Doha on 30 March 2014.

The 2 airlines established a code-share agreement the following month.

The new agreement between Cathay Pacific Airway and Qatar Airways offers travelers greater flexibility and a wider choice of travel destinations in Asia, Australia, the Middle East, New Zealand, and South America.

Qatar Airways entered the Chinese market in 2006 with flights to Shanghai. The airline now serves the following Chinese travel destinations with non-stop flights to Doha: Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou.

Interestingly, the airline has yet to launch flights to Beijing. It formerly offered flights to Taipei, Taiwan, but later discontinued service to the travel destination.
