Located in Northeastern China, Dalian is home to thousands of cherry trees planted during the Japanese occupation in the 1920s. The city's Cherry Blossom Festival runs from 26 April to 12 May 2015.

Dalian was formerly known in English as Port Arthur. It was occupied in succession by Britain, Russia, and Japan. Japanese colonists planted cherry trees in the city during the Japanese Occupation in the 1920s.
Because of its Northerly location, cherry trees in the Dalian start to blossom relatively late in the year - at about the same time as Aomori, Hakodate, and Sapporo in Northern Japan.
