There are so many places in the world I have never been to and will never go to. And others - either by design or by invitation - keep drawing me back. Koh Samui belongs to the second category.

I made my first trip to Koh Samui in 2010. And what a trip that was!

I spent 9 days and 8 nights at the Absolute Sanctuary, a holistic health resort, where I did detox, ate healthful - but VERY yummy food at the Love Cafe, did daily yoga classes, and had twice daily spa treatments.

I also found time to do laps in the swimming pool, and I didn't have any alcoholic beverages for the duration of my stay.

I made my second trip to Koh Samui in 2011 as part of a press trip, which included a stop in Bangkok for medical tourism. One of the highlights of that trip was getting to see first hand how rum was made at a boutique distillery.

I made yet another trip to Koh Samui in 2013.

I stayed at the Hansar Samui, a lovely beachfront resort located on Bophut Beach.

The highlight of that trip was learning how to make cocktails at the hotel's beachfront bar and exploring Fishterman's Village, which is located adjacent to the hotel.

Since I had already been to Koh Samui 3 times - and especially since it is a relatively small island - you would think that there would be nothing new for me to see or do.

Most of the journalists on the press trip had been to Koh Samui before. Can the organizers surprise us by taking us somewhere that we haven't been to before?
