United States: Oakland to Consider Certification of 'Coliseum City' Proposal


Fans supporting Oakland's Coliseum City proposal are encouraged to attend a key meeting of the Oakland Planning Commission scheduled for 6 pm on 4 March 2015 at the Oakland City Hall in downtown Oakland.

The future of professional sports in Oakland, California, could be in the balance as the Oakland Planning Commission considers certifying the Coliseum Plan Final Environmental Impact Report.

The Oakland Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing to consider certification of the final Enivornmental Impact Report (EIR) and Coliseum Specific Plan, a.k.a. Coliseum City, on Wednesday 4 March 2015 at the City of Oakland City Hall, Hearing Room 1, One Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, Oakland, California.

The meeting will begin at 6 pm.

Save Oakland Sports is encouraging Oakland sports fans in support of the Coliseum City proposal to attend the meeting wearing the colours of their favourite teams - silver and black, green and gold, or blue and gold.

A final draft of the Coliseum Area Specific Plan was released on 30 January 2015.

It covers 800 acres and comprises the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum and Arena, the Coliseum BART station parking lots, the Oakland Airport Business Park, and the surrounding area.

New facitlies for Oakland's 3 current sports franchises - the Oakland Raiders, and Oakland Athletics, and the Golden State Warriors - are key elements of the plan.

Commercial, entertainment, and residential components also form an important part of the proposal.
