Exhibitions

Tens of thousands of artists, art dealers, art critics, art lovers, curators, private collectors, and not a few curiosity seekers have descended on Hong Kong to attend Art Basel Hong Kong.

And while this is no Hong Kong Book Fair - no skantily dressed young starlets posing for would-be paparazzi and no need to elbow your way through the throng - there is, still, lots to see.

One of the top draws for me personally were the book stalls set up outside the exhibition halls. There were three books I really wanted to buy, but I resisted temptation. And now I'm regretting it!

Insider's Tip

If you don't want to splash out the money to attend the exhibition (tickets aren't exactly cheap), the book stalls are located in the first floor lobby of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre so you can browse to your heart's content without having to pay admission.

Art Basel Hong Kong runs from Thursday 23 May through Sunday 26 May 2013. It is one of the bigggest art events of the year in Asia, drawing attendees from around the world.

Three Times Lucky

Hong Kong is one of three cities around the world to host the global event. Art Basel also takes place in Basel, Switzerland, and Miami Beach, Florida.

Art Basel Hong Kong is being held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wanchai on Hong Kong Island. Many events related to Art Basel are being held concurrently at art galleries and other venues around town.

One of the world's top art shows dedicated to modern and contemporary art, Art Basel dates back to 1970. It was established to support "the role that galleries play in the nurturing of artists and the development and promotion of visual arts”.
