Six Hong Kong Restaurants Maintain Three Michelin Star Status

All six of the Hong Kong restaurants awarded three stars in the 2016 edition of the Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau maintained their three star status in the guide’s 2017 edition.

A total of 61 Hong Kong restaurants were awarded stars in the 2017 Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau.

The same six Hong Kong restaurants receiving three Michelin stars in the food guide's 2016 edition maintained their three-star status in the 2017 edition.

Not one more Hong Kong restaurant was added to the Michelin Guide's 2017 list.

Two more restaurants were upgraded to two star status: Kashiwaya, which serves Japanese food, and Ta Vie, which serves innovative food.

The addition of these two Hong Kong restaurants brought the total of eateries awarded two Michelin star status to 14.

A total of 41 Hong Kong eateries received one Michelin star. Six  new  Hong Kong restaurants were added to the list.

One of only four Chinese restaurants in the world to have been awarded three Michelin stars, T'ang Court at The Langham, Hong Kong, was one of the six Hong Kong restaurants to keep its three star rating.

“We are ecstatic and so proud to maintain the highest star rating from Michelin," said Managing Director Shaun Campbell of The Langham, Hong Kong.

"Our goal is to create a dining destination worth travelling for and this recognition strengthens our mission. We celebrate this achievement with every team member at the hotel and with all of our discerning guests.”

Executive Chef – Chinese Cuisine Kwong Wai Keung was equally upbeat.

“We are so honoured that our craft has been recognised on a global scale of the highest standard in the culinary world," Chef Wai-keung said.

"Cooking is a labour of love and we look forward to welcoming our guests to taste the delicate intricacies of quality Cantonese cuisine."

When foodies think of food in Hong Kong or Hong Kong style cooking, Cantonese cuisine is usually the first  cooking style that comes to mind.

So it's not surprising that Cantonese style restaurants dominated the list of the 61 best restaurants in Hong Kong.

Restaurants serving continental cuisine - such as French or Italian - came in second, followed by restaurants serving other types of Chinese cuisine, such as Shanghainese or Pekingese.

Several Japanese eateries also made the list.
